Performance Evaluation and Comparison of Satellite-Derived Rainfall Datasets over the Ziway Lake Basin, Ethiopia

Consistent time series rainfall datasets are important in performing climate trend analyses and agro-hydrological modeling. However, temporally consistent ground-based long-term observed data usually lacking for such analyses, especially mountainous developing countries. In the absence of data, satellite-derived products, as Climate Hazard Infrared Precipitations with Stations (CHIRPS) Global Precipitation Measurement Integrated Multi-SatellitE Retrieval (GPM-IMERG) can be used. their performance varies from region to region, it is interest evaluate accuracy products at basin scale using observations. this study, we evaluated demonstrated three-run GPM-IMERG (early, late, final) CHIRPS against observations over Ziway Lake Basin Ethiopia. We performed analysis monthly seasonal scales 2000 2014, multiple statistical evaluation criteria graphical methods. While both showed good agreement ground-observed scales, slightly outperformed products. The study thus concluded that or used a surrogate studies.
